WHAT TO EXPECT

Your UNSCRIPTED, UNPOSED Photography Experience

You'll go through your day, or our time together, as you usually would, loving and connecting with your family. I'll capture your family connection in a meaningful and beautiful way, in your own environment. I won't place you in a particular arrangement, and expect you to 'do' anything. I will also capture the details about your family, the special things, like stuffed animals, books, clothes left on the floor, dirty fingernails, flyaway hairs. I'll make portraits of your people, but only as they occur naturally. You won't need to pose or act a certain way.

Day In-The-Life or Half-Day In-The-Life:

You will simply go about your day, as I document your family activities and interactions. Those everyday activities might include: making and eating meals, doing the dishes, bath time, getting dressed, waking up, going to sleep, nursing your baby, crying children, playing in the backyard, parents leaving for work or arriving home, kids getting on the bus, taking a walk, family pets, going to the park...anything and everything you might do in your day.

Shorter sessions:

I may ask you to choose a few activities that are special to your family, which will naturally bring out fun and interaction. I'll use a similar approach to my day-in-the-life coverage, but with the shorter time frame, keeping a few true-to-you activities will keep things flowing.

Before Your Session:

I'll send an info guide and questionnaire, for you to complete. The questionnaire will have questions about your family members, what you like to do together, and where you like to go together. This will help me form a plan with you, for your session.

During Your Session:

I'll ask you to interact with your family, doing things together, that you love. Nothing will be forced. Tantrums, spills, breastfeeding, and wild-haired, half-naked children, are totally welcome.

After Your Session:

I'll edit your photos down to the best selection, and make sure they look just right. I'll email a link to view your photos, in your own personal online viewing and ordering gallery. You'll be able to order prints and memory books, and download files, right through that link. You'll be able to share this link with friends and family. Grandma and grandpa will probably want to order some prints for themselves! Allow up to 4 weeks editing time for day in-the-life photos, and approximately 2 weeks for shorter sessions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. MY HOUSE ISN'T PERFECT, OR FANCY, OR CLEAN, BUT AN IN-HOME SESSION SEEMS SO GREAT. SHOULD I STILL DO THIS?

A. Definitely. When your family is grown, and moved out of the house, you won't care that your house had some clutter, in the photos. You'll be grateful that you took the time to record yourself, loving your children. Don't wait to lose that 10 pounds or make the house perfect; your kids will never be exactly this age again. Plus, I'm pretty good at making random background junk, look good. And, I've also been a wedding photographer for 11 years. My job is to make people look good in the midst of an emotional moment. I've got your back.

Q. I'M SOLD, BUT HOW DO I GET MY SPOUSE OR PARTNER ON BOARD WITH THIS CONCEPT?

A. Your spouse might be relieved to know, that they don't have to dress up, smile when the photographer tells the to, or show up in a random location they've never visited. You can explain that all they have to do is go about their normal activities, during a day-in-the-life session. For shorter sessions, we'll work together to choose a location that actually matters to your family. So, get them to help you choose the location. Getting them involved, will help them be excited and invested in the outcome of your photos. We'll also work together to determine your families favorite activities, incorporating them into the session. All your spouse has to do, is play and interact with you and the kids, while I capture the fun. After booking, I'll send you information about how your session will work, and send a questionnaire, asking you about your family members. I'll ask you about  your favorite things to do together and favorite places to go. Again, if you get your spouse involved in reading the info and answering these questions, it will help get them on board.

Q. HOW WILL I SEE MY PHOTOS, AND WHEN?

A. I'll email a link to view your edited photos, in your own personal online viewing and ordering gallery. You'll be able to order prints and memory books, and download files, right through that link. You'll be able to share this link with friends and family. Grandma and grandpa will probably want to order some prints for themselves!

Q. DO YOU WORK WITH NON-TRADITIONAL FAMILIES?

A. You bet I do! Two moms, two dads, a single parent...no problem. Traditional, schmaditional.

Q. I KNOW YOU SAID I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY OUTFIT, BUT REALLLLLY, WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

A. I get what you're saying. I want to look like I stepped out of a J. Crew ad, but I just woke up like this, too. Keep it simple and classic. Just wear your favorite everyday-outfit. Jeans, t-shirts, a maxi dress...whatever makes you feel good, but allows you to go throughout your day in your usual manner. If you choose a day-in-the-life session (or half-day), I might photograph you waking up, having your coffee, feeding the kids breakfast. Wear those jammies, so we get the real stuff, but then you'll change into your daytime clothes, and I'll capture you that way, too. And, if your kids are half-naked, or wearing a dinosaur costume, who cares? Even better.
